IDDRI and BirdLife are participating in the “STRONG High Seas” workshop on August 25, 2019. The purpose of the workshop is to discuss regional ocean governance. It is an opportunity to bring together United Nations ministerial representatives and negotiators from the South-East Pacific, South-East Atlantic and South-West Pacific regions with the aim of:
- discuss marine genetic resources,
- exchange good practices and lessons learned in regional ocean governance – including the conservation of biodiversity beyond areas of national jurisdiction
- and highlight the importance, opportunities and challenges of regional ocean governance for the implementation of a future BBNJ (Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction) agreement within the framework of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS)
